De Gea’s release clause?

Manchester United could be helpless to stop goalkeeper David De Gea leaving in the future to a release clause in his contract, say reports in Spain.

The 26-year-old was at the centre of an infamous incident last year when his pre-agreed move to Real Madrid ultimately collapsed after the club failed to send a fax to the relevant authorities in time, before he went on to sign a new contract at Old Trafford until 2019 the following week.

However, Marca report that De Gea's new deal includes a €60m release clause, which would leave the Red Devils helpless if a club was willing to make an offer for the goalkeeper.

With their current ban on signing players, Los Blancos would not be able to make a move for the former Atletico goalkeeper until 2018 at the very earliest and the report also states that Keylor Navas has the 'full backing' of Real Madrid, after excellent performances over the past 18 months.
