Betis: Poyet out, Victor in

Real Betis have sacked Gus Poyet after just six months in charge and appointed former Deportivo La Coruna boss Victor Sanchez in his place.

Poyet only took charge of Betis in May, but four defeats in his last five games and increasing tensions with the club’s fans have sealed his fate.

He is followed out of Benito Villamarin by assistants Mauricio Taricco, Charlie Oatway and Andy Beasley, although long-term collaborator Marcos Alvarez will remain as fitness coach.

In their announcement of the Uruguayan’s dismissal, Betis also confirmed Victor as their new Coach.

According to Marca, the 40-year-old has signed a contract until June 2018, but his second term is dependant on how he fares between now and the end of the season.

Victor guided Depor to survival in each of the previous two campaigns prior to leaving for Olympiakos over the summer but left the Greek giants after they crashed out of the Champions League playoffs.

He will be officially unveiled by the club on Monday alongside President Angel Haro and sporting director Miguel Torrecilla.
