Betis delay Poyet decision

Gus Poyet is still in charge at Real Betis after the club delayed any decision on his future, which had been expected to be finalised yesterday.

The Uruguayan is under immense pressure after a slow start to the campaign and Sunday's 2-0 loss at Villarreal was expected to hasten his exit, however the club are yet to clarify the situation.

Estadio Deportivo report a meeting had been scheduled on Monday between the board, Poyet and sporting director Miguel Torrecilla but this was postponed as Torrecilla had other commitments and the manager himself did not turn up to the meeting.

The sporting director – who joined Betis this summer after a successful spell at Celta Vigo – is said to support the former Sunderland manager's position and wants to give the side two more games (against Las Palmas and Eibar) for form to turnaround.

In recent weeks fans have chanted for Poyet to be sacked following a run of poor form and results, with a lack of creativity and belief also cited.

Los Verdiblancos have been linked with former Estoril, Sporting CP and Olympiakos coach Marco Silva, along with former interim boss Juan Merino.
