Five-year deal for Ronaldo?

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new Real Madrid contract is expected to be announced next week as the Portuguese has reportedly agreed to sign on for five years.

According to Marca and AS, Ronaldo’s extension will see him at Madrid until he is 36, in his 12th season at the Santiago Bernabeu and remain the club’s best-paid player, which would also make him the biggest earner in world football.

The former explains the basis of the attacker’s agreement “has already been laid” and will be formalised at a meeting between his agent Jorge Mendes and Los Blancos’ general manager Jose Angel Sanchez “in the coming hours”.

Despite a poor start to the season by his lofty standards, Ronaldo continues to have the backing of the Madrid board and his teammates and is considered “the symbol” of the club.

He will become the fifth Blancos player after Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez to have renewed this season.
