Escudero earns first Spain call-up

Sevilla's Sergio Escudero has been called up to the Spanish national team for the first time in his career for the matches against Macedonia and England.

The 27-year-old has shown fine form recently and has been given an extended run in the side over Benoit Tremoulinas, having previously had spells with Schalke and Getafe.

There are also places in the squad for Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo – who has previously been capped only once – but there is no room for Sevilla's Sergio Rico or Betis shot-stopper Antonio Adan.

Barcelona trio Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Andres Iniesta all miss out through injury, while English Premier League duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata are among those back in the fold, while Ander Herrera retains his place.

Athletic Club Bilbao striker Aritz Aduriz is also included, less than 24 hours after netting five goals for his side in the Europa League.

Full squad: De Gea, Reina, Asenjo, Nacho, Barta, Inigo Martinez, Azpiliceuta, Monreal, Carvajal, Escudero, Sergi Roberto, Ander Herrera, Busquets, Koke, Isco, Thiago, Silva, Mata, Vazquez, Callejon, Vitolo, Morata, Costa, Aduriz, Nolito
