Verratti: I rejected Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has admitted he turned down the opportunity to join Real Madrid last summer.

The 23-year-old moved to the Ligue 1 giants from Pescara in July 2012 for a reported €12m and recently allegedly fell out with PSG Coach Unai Emery after he was substituted in a scoreless draw with Marseille.

However, speaking to RAI Sport, Verratti insisted he wants to win trophies with his current club.

“Madrid? Their interest in me was very nice. It’s not every day that Madrid ask for you, but

when I’m happy at a club I don’t want to start negotiations with any other. I want to win things in a PSG shirt,” said the Italy international.

Verratti then went on to make his predictions on which teams would win the major European leagues and the Champions League this season.

“Real Madrid will triumph in La Liga, PSG will win it in France, Juventus will be crowned champions in Italy and Manchester City will capture the Premier League. Guardiola’s team are not showing their best form right now but they are the strongest in their league.

“Finally, Bayern Munich will win the Bundesliga. The last time I spoke to Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti he told me he was convinced they were going to win the Champions League, so I’m backing them to do it,” he declared.
