Investigation into James threats

An investigation has been opened by authorities in Colombia regarding alleged death threats received by James Rodriguez and his mother.

Pilar Rubio – James’ mother – posted a photo on social media of a box with a gun and bullets which had been sent to her with another message that her son had also been targeted and threatened in a similar fashion by another user.

"The national prosecution service has opened an investigation into the threats which James Rodriguez received via the cellphone of one of his family members," said General Luis Alberto Perez, director of the country's Cuerpo Tecnico de Investigacion – the country’s prosecution service.

A jail sentence of between four and eight years can be handed out due to similar threats in the country.

Colombian national team boss Jose Pekerman has once again supported the player’s decision to travel to take part with the international squad for their recent matches.

"[James] did what all players do during the international break," Pekerman told AS.

"He had a fitness issue, the club looked at it, the club authorised him to travel with his national team. If there had been a serious injury he would not have travelled, and Real Madrid let him travel.”
