Capello: Madrid’s problem? Ronaldo

Former Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello believes the club’s current problems stem from Cristiano Ronaldo’s ongoing fitness concerns.

The Portuguese superstar missed the opening weeks of the season following the knee injury he sustained in the Euro 2016 final against France, and Capello believes his imperfect physical state is damaging his personal performance.

"Real Madrid's current problem is Cristiano Ronaldo," the Italian said.

"Because for me he is not perfect physically, he does not have the same balance with his knee. I have seen him missing shots that he never misses, never. And he is their goal scorer and the most important player in the team. Then they are missing important midfielders too."

The 70-year-old also gave his back to Zinedine Zidane, who has come in for criticism after four successive draws.

"When you win trophies, well, and Zidane has won the Champions League, the most difficult to win for everyone," Capello said.

"So we must give him time. This is a difficult moment, and they are still top. That is the most important for a coach."
