Alvaro Morata claims Real Madrid “always believed” against Sporting CP and admits “I came back here for nights like this”.
Morata started as a substitute but eventually came on to score an injury-time winner as Madrid narrowly defeated Sporting 2-1 to ensure their Champions League defence began in victory.
“We didn’t start the game well but Real Madrid are famous for comebacks like these and we leave here very happy,” the striker told UEFA’s official website.
“We always believed in ourselves and we proved that you can always win a game until the referee blows the final whistle.
“Football is not always fair but it was fundamental to win and that's what we've done. We have to try and finish top of the group.
“Of course I came back here for nights like this, I want to succeed here, that's my dream. I'm working hard to do that and I want to help out with goals.”
