Cristiano Ronaldo has bit back at Xavi Hernandez, accusing his former Barcelona rival of “wanting front-pages” and mocking his Ballon d’Or record.
Xavi recently claimed Ronaldo was unfortunate to have existed at the same time as “best in the world” Lionel Messi, prompting Ronaldo – a goalscorer in Real Madrid’s 5-2 win against Osasuna on Saturday – to offer a series of controversial statements in reply.
“I’m the Internet’s most-searched player,” the forward said after the game.
“Whoever wants to appear on front-pages or promote [themselves] talks about me.
“I don’t care about what Xavi says about me, he plays in Qatar or [somewhere] I don’t know.
“He’s won everything but never a Ballon d’Or.”
