Council orders Madrid aid recovery

The Madrid City Council has begun proceedings to retrieve from Real Madrid the “illegal” €18.4m they received in state aid.

A Press release on Saturday confirmed that a notice had been delivered to Madrid in regards to recovering the money, as requested by the European Commission back in July.

The statement also noted the club had incurred at least €1.8m in interest from their “advantageous transfer of property” owned by the council.
