Arsenal step in for Lucas Perez

Arsenal have reportedly beaten Everton to the signature of Deportivo La Coruna’s Lucas Perez.

El Confidencial claims that though the Toffees had approached Lucas and informed him that they would pay the €20m called for in his contract to break his agreement at Riazor, and hand him a bigger contract than on offer from Depor, the Gunners are now in pole position.

Arsenal are understood to have watched Lucas throughout last season and made a late move to take him to the Emirates Stadium, Lucas having hoped the London club would make an approach all along.

Arsene Wenger’s side will also pay the €20m clause and Lucas, who turns 28 in September, feels it’s the right time to make the leap to a club of Arsenal’s size and will reject a seven-year contract from Depor.
