Arsenal ‘agree to pay Lucas Perez clause’

Arsenal have reportedly agreed to pay Lucas Perez’s €20m clause so he can leave Deportivo La Coruna despite claims the deal was delayed.

It had been said in the British Press, citing Spanish reports, that the Gunners wanted Depor to accept the fee in instalments, and the Galicia club said no.

La Voz de Galicia however reports on Thursday afternoon that Arsenal have agreed to deposit the €20m to free Lucas from his contract and pay the associated costs, including taxes, so the 27-year-old can move to the Emirates Stadium.

Depor will receive €14m of the fee as €6m is due to PAOK, the Greek club Lucas represented before moving to Riazor, and will pay €3.5m to the tax office to account for their debt.

The report adds that Lucas will sign with Arsenal in the next few hours and once the transfer is completed, will look for a replacement to bolster Gaizka Garitano’s squad.
