Odegaard set for Rennes loan?

Real Madrid starlet Martin Odegaard will reportedly join Rennes on a season-long loan this week.

AS cites reports from the French and Norwegian media that Odegaard’s loan without a purchase option will be “made official” in the next few days.

The newspaper explains how Odegaard had sought a move to Germany, amidst interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg, but Zinedine Zidane convinced him Ligue 1 would better serve his development.

Zizou also spent time at Rennes in 2014 as part of his training to become a Coach.

Speaking about the 17-year-old after Madrid’s European Super Cup win against Sevilla last week, Zidane remarked: “He’s with us at the moment, he spent preseason with the [first] team and I’m happy [with him].

“After that, we’ll make a decision, especially him. Anything can happen before August 31.

“The idea I have for him is that he plays a bit, but doing so at Madrid would be very complicated because there are many [others in front of him]. That’s my advice.”
