Atleti ‘step up goalkeeper chase’

Miguel Angel Moya’s two-month injury layoff has reportedly prompted Atletico Madrid to step up their chase for a new goalkeeper.

Atleti confirmed on their official website last week that Moya had undergone surgery to correct a case of knee locking in his right leg.

Consequently, AS claims Los Colchoneros are now targeting an “experienced” pair of hands to act as cover Jan Oblak, with the 32-year-old also facing “decline” and his contract expiring next summer.

Atleti already have Bernabe Barragan and Axel Werner on their books, but Diego Simeone would prefer Bernabe to continue his development with the club’s B team, while fellow youngster Werner is expected to join Boca Juniors in the near future.

Valencia’s Diego Alves is one name that has been touted by the Spanish Press.
