Ter Stegen to miss Supercopa

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to miss Barcelona’s Supercopa first leg against Sevilla after straining knee ligaments in training.

A statement on Barca’s official website confirms Ter Stegen pulled up in Thursday’s session with a sprained MCL in his left knee, without specifying a recovery time.

However, Marca reports his injury is similar to that of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Euro 2016 final, meaning the goalkeeper could even be looking at six weeks out.

Ter Stegen had been involved in a much-publicised tug-of-war with Claudio Bravo for the Catalans’ No 1 jersey in the Supercopa, which kicks off on Sunday, and the Chilean is now expected to win that battle.
