Mou: Ronaldo didn’t help Portugal

Jose Mourinho believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s touchline antics did not help Portugal beat France in the Euro 2016 final last month.

Ronaldo’s injury midway through the first half in the final prompted famous scenes of him frantically direct his teammates alongside Coach Fernando Santos on the touchline as Portugal went on to win 1-0 in extra time, but Mourinho insists the Real Madrid star was merely over-excited.

“[Ronaldo] lost a little emotional control,” he told Sport TV+.

“He didn’t bring anything [to the team] in the final minutes. Those who did were the 11 who were on the pitch and the Coach who directed them.

“He didn’t contribute anything in the final minutes. I saw his attitude as an overflow of emotion that he went through prior to the team achieving the objective that everyone wanted.”
