‘Simeone has Atletico’s full support’

Enrique Cerezo sees Diego Simeone calm and working hard, which is ‘good for Atletico Madrid.’ ‘He has our full support.’

Simeone’s future at Vicente Calderon appeared in doubt following the Champions League Final defeat to Real Madrid in June, Simeone later explaining he was ‘in mourning,’ and Cerezo feels Cholo is more peaceful now.

“Diego is fine, quiet. He’s the best Coach in the world. He has our full support and all the love he wants. The players are happy with him. He’ll be with us for many years. He’s as always, calm, working hard, and that’s good for Atletico,” Cerezo told Marca.

“We aspire to everything. We play three tournaments: La Liga, where the best teams in the world are and where we’re among the top three in recent years, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. We want to and we will fight for everything. It’s very difficult but we have a principle objective and that’s to win the Champions League.

“Hopefully we leave Vicente Calderon with a trophy. That would be very nice. We have a lot of memories, a lot of happy ones, and less happy. Now we’re moving home, to a modern, convenient and comfortable stadium. It will be among the best in the world. We’ll be proud of our new stadium.

“Antoine Griezmann? A genius, a star, I’m sure he’ll fight for the Ballon d’Or. He’s a great player and everyone loves him. He’s a great player…a lot of people said he wouldn’t stay at Atletico, and here he is. He’s going to give us a lot of joy and continue with us for a long time. Cholo adores him. Hopefully he wins the Ballon d’Or.”
