Real Madrid have missed out on Leroy Sane after Schalke announced the winger was on the verge of joining Manchester City.
Sane’s father claimed last month that Madrid were still a possible destination for his son, but Schalke have since confirmed that the 20-year-old is in Manchester to complete a transfer to City, worth a reported €36.5m.
“Leroy Sane is currently in Manchester and will not be travelling with Schalke to the training camp,” the German club wrote on their official Twitter account.
The news comes after it emerged Madrid had to sell before they could buy, while links between Los Blancos and Paul Pogba have cooled in recent weeks.
