Zizou: Morata staying, Jese going

Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that Alvaro Morata will stay at Real Madrid, while Paris Saint-Germain target Jese Rodriguez is “talking to another club”.

Zidane was speaking after Madrid’s 3-2 win against Chelsea in the International Champions Cup on Saturday, which saw Los Blancos lead 3-0 by half-time thanks to a brace from Marcelo and Mariano’s long-range effort.

“Today [our attacks came] from the left, tomorrow they will come from right,” the Coach noted.

“The most important thing was to start strong and with intensity, and I’m satisfied with our performance. We showed something else, but we know that there’s still a lot to work on.

“It was important that we showed something else. We have another game to prepare a little better for the match on the 9th [against Sevilla], and I think it will be enough to get us ready for the Supercopa.

“I don’t know if [Marcelo] is the best, but he’s a joy to watch. He’s also the captain, spectacular and an example for others.

“I’m happy for his performance and because he played much better, but we still have to keep working hard.

“Jese seems to be talking to another club, but no-one knows yet, that’s why he didn’t play. Isco had a knock and it was better that he didn’t play.

“[On Mariano], it’s business as usual and he knows the players here, plus Morata has arrived. For me, it’d be good for him to play more minutes.

“We’ll see when we return to Madrid, we’ll make the best decisions for everyone, but the best thing for him is to play.

“[Morata] is a Madrid player and we’re delighted with him. He’s returned home and going to be with us this season.

“He’s just started [his second spell], happy and getting up to speed. He needs time. He’s a very strong player and I’ve seen him to be very well.

“He always fights, defends his corner and helps others. I’m happy with him.

“[Eden Hazard] is a Chelsea player, and I’ll always say this. He’s a great player.”
