Defender leaves Atleti for Wolves

Portuguese defender Silvio has ended his unhappy spell at Atletico Madrid by signing for English second-tier club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Silvio joined Atleti from Braga in 2011 but played just 10 times in La Liga for Los Colchoneros due to a spate of injuries and Diego Simeone’s appointment as Coach at the end of his first year.

He appeared to have put his fitness issues behind him during a loan spell at Deportivo La Coruna in 2013, but a leg break marred his next three seasons, all of which he spent at Benfica.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with Wolves, with the option of a second year.

The Championship side were recently taken over by Chinese consortium Fosun International, who have links with the full-back’s agent Jorge Mendes.
