Atletico Madrid sporting director Jose Luis Caminero has hailed Kevin Gameiro as a “perfect” addition to the side’s attack.
Gameiro completed his €41m switch to Atleti from Sevilla on Saturday after Los Colchoneros were knocked back in their attempts to bring back Diego Costa, and Caminero believes the Frenchman is tailor-made for Diego Simeone’s style of play.
“He’s a forward who is accustomed to pressing defenders and tireless in his effort, so he fits perfectly into what we wanted to strengthen our attack,” he told Marca from Atleti’s Australia preseason base.
“[His arrival is] great news. He’s a reinforcement that will allow us to increase the competition in our attack.
“He’s a very quick player, with a great shot, and he’s spent several years competing in the Spanish League, so his adaptation will be easier.”
