Cerezo: Costa is Chelsea’s

Enrique Cerezo denies saying Atletico Madrid were close to signing Diego Costa from Chelsea and says there’s no movement with the striker.

The Italian Press claimed Cerezo had said Los Colchoneros were about to bring Costa back to Vicente Calderon from Stamford Bridge but Chelsea Coach Antonio Conte poured cold water on the gossip, and Cerezo insists he never made the comments attributed to him.

“It’s necessary to clear everything up. You ask about Costa a lot. I always say he has a contract with Chelsea. If I’d said something to the Italian reporters, don’t you think I would have told you as well?” he said when speaking to the Spanish Press, AS reports.

“Everything is as it was six months ago. He’s a great player and here we love him very much, but he’s a Chelsea player. Our new No 9? What we can’t do is give the news before it happens.”

Cerezo was also asked about Borja Baston, who has been linked with Premier League Swansea City but suffered a broken arm in training recently.

“He isn’t on the pre-season because he can’t move his elbow for 10 days. He’s a great player and yes, I can say he is Atletico’s. Swansea wants him? You’ll have to talk to the Press, who know about transfers, I don’t,” he replied.
