Madrid: Mayoral goes, Silva stays?

Borja Mayoral has reportedly agreed to join Wolfsburg on loan, while Lucas Silva’s switch to Sporting CP has collapsed due to a heart problem.

On the topic of Mayoral, Marca claims Madrid are happy to let him join another club so his development can be aided, while the striker has given the move his approval over another season with Castilla.

There is no purchase option for Wolfsburg, although the arrangement leaves the door open for Mayoral to a second chance at Madrid, while he has the chance of proving his worth in a major European League.

The last Madrid cantera to spend time with a German club is Dani Carvajal, who established himself as a top-level right-back at Bayer Leverkusen during the 2012-13 campaign before returning to Los Blancos a year later.

Mayoral was promoted to Madrid’s first team by Rafa Benitez last season and went on to make six appearances, including three starts against Levante, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad.

However, the same cannot be said for Silva, with AS reporting a four-hour medical with Sporting on Saturday detected a heart problem.

A season-long loan with the option for a permanent deal had been agreed that morning as the Brazilian midfielder travelled to Portugal to complete his switch, but he failed stress tests.

Madrid paid Cruzeiro €14m in January 2015 for the midfielder, who played nine games in his half-season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, his loan spell at Marseille in 2015-16 saw him frozen out for the second half of the campaign as this revelation may have deterred other clubs from taking him.
