Coke: Sevilla are used to change

Sevilla captain Coke is ready for the ‘new era’ of Jorge Sampaoli as Coach and says the club is ‘used to change.’

Sampaoli has succeeded Paris Saint-Germain-bound Unai Emery and the skipper spoke to reporters after the first day of pre-season training.

“It’s the start of a new era but we are used to change. Hopefully we’ll have another successful season,” Estadio Deportivo quotes Coke as saying, before acknowledging the European and Spanish Super Cups that are on the horizon.

“Maybe this month will be the more bearable one. We’ll have to work long hours with two clear objectives, two trophies, which are the recognition of the previous season.

“The preparation is hard and physical but we can’t just aim at the Supercups, because the season is long and we want to be in the best condition.”

Coke also considered the new Coach’s style and touched on reports linking the former Chile boss with the vacancy on the Argentina bench.

“Sampaoli bets on the attack but at home we already want to dominate the games. I’m sure teams will defend against us more,” he predicted.

“[The Argentina link] speaks well of him. I imagine he’ll want to do great things with Sevilla, as do we. I expect that if he went there, there would have to be a lot of circumstances and we’ll have to see if that could happen now.”
