Barca prefer Vietto over Gameiro?

Atletico Madrid’s Luciano Vietto has emerged as Barcelona’s preferred option to bolster the attack, over Sevilla’s Kevin Gameiro.

Mundo Deportivo reports technical director Robert Fernandez has created two lists, one of young players who could join Luis Enrique’s squad, headed by Vietto, and another of veterans, on which Gameiro features.

The feeling among the Barca leadership is that the better option would be younger player who could grow into the club and provide back-up to Luis Suarez, who the same age, 29, as Gameiro.

Enrique is a fan of the France international but his age is counting against him while Vietto, at 22, has more years ahead of him and is also a friend and international colleague of Lionel Messi.

Atletico paid Villarreal €20m for Vietto in 2015 but he struggled at Vicente Calderon and Barca feel they could get him for the same price, having also considered Valencia’s Santi Mina and Ajax pair Arkadiusz Milik and Anwar El Ghazi.

The report adds that while Barca are also pressing Valencia for Andre Gomes, the priority is in attack as the squad already has options in midfield.
