Gomes Madrid’s first signing?

Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes has been touted as Real Madrid’s first summer signing with Los Che asking €65m.

Marca claims Los Blancos are at the front of a queue also containing Barcelona, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus for the Portugal international, who is under contract at Mestalla until 2020 and has a release clause of €120m.

It’s felt that Gomes would be the long-term replacement for Luka Modric, as he has not yet turned 23 and has, Madrid feel, a bright future with room to develop.

Should Gomes go to Santiago Bernabeu then, Marca add, it would not rule out Paul Pogba’s arrival, but N’Golo Kante, said to have been a favourite of Zinedine Zidane.

Madrid have ‘for months’ held interest in Gomes, the report adds, and first took notice of the 22-year-old in 2014-15, when he impressed under Nuno Santo, and good performances against Madrid in January and May 2016 added to the feeling that Gomes is a Madrid-level player.
