Barca join De Sciglio race?

Barcelona have reportedly joined the race for Mattia De Sciglio as they prioritise the signing of a wingback to replace Adriano.

The newspaper claims Adriano’s time at Barca is coming to an end as talks with Lazio have been scheduled for next week, which are expected to result in the player’s departure, leaving the club short on options in wide areas.

Consequently, the Catalans are keen to sign a player who can operate anywhere down the left so Jordi Alba can be given more rest and is also adept on the opposite flank, currently occupied by converted full-backs Aleix Vidal and Sergi Roberto.

MD claims Barca have whittled their list down to four players, beginning with De Sciglio, who displayed a return to form during Italy’s Euro 2016 campaign.

The newspaper explains the Milan man is considered “the most complete of the four” and ticks all the boxes in that he is just 23, “plays equally well” on either side, despite being a left wingback, is proficient in attacking and defending and “difficult to beat on one-on-ones”.

Matteo Darmian is Barca’s other preferred choice thanks to the Manchester United defender’s “versatility, power, verticality and commitment”.

Further down are Borussia Monchengladbach’s Fabian Johnson, who is seen as the most attacking of the quartet, and former Real Madrid target Wendell, MD describing him as the best technically, although La Blaugrana are not sold on their defensive capabilities.
