Portugal boss Fernando Santos hailed Real Madrid duo Pepe and Cristiano Ronaldo for “amazing” performances against Poland on Thursday.
Pepe was considered to have had “a great game” by AS the morning after the Euro 2016 quarter-final, while Ronaldo scored the first penalty in a successful shootout for the Seleccao, leading Santos to single out the pair for helping the country reach the last four.
“We were the best team in a very difficult match,” the Coach said after the game.
“We must congratulate the players. Some ended up with cramp after two lots of extra time in succession.
“I’m confident that what our country has always dreamed of can become a reality.
“I don’t like to focus on individual players, but Pepe and Cristiano had amazing games.
“Cristiano is usually measured by goals, but he gives us much more than that.”
