Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric told Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic which way to dive against Sergio Ramos’ penalty.
AS reports Subasic confirmed post-match that Modric lifted the lid on his club colleague’s penalty preferences as Croatia beat Spain to finish top of Group D.
“He told me to wait and then go to the right,” Subasic said, the injured Modric having passed the information on through captain Darijo Srna, who spoke with the goalkeeper before Ramos’ spot kick.
AS adds that when it became clear Ramos was to take the penalty, Srna looked to Modric for advice and Modric responded by telling Srna to tell Subasic to wait and go to his right, and Ramos duly shot to the goalkeeper’s right after a stuttering run-up.
