Atletico Madrid are facing disappointment as Borussia Dortmund protect Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a new contract.
AS reports the Gabon international has been considered by Atletico as they look for ways to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season, with Diego Costa now Diego Simeone’s preferred choice and Aubameyang the alternative.
But the departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels, to Manchester City and Bayern Munich respectively, mean Dortmund will dig in over Aubameyang as they don’t need to sell for financial reasons.
Aubameyang has been given a new contract to 2020 and Dortmund are braced for bids from the Premier League, as well as Atletico’s interest.
