Chelsea bid €40m for Gomes?

Valencia have reportedly turned down a €40m bid from Chelsea for Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have joined Juventus and Manchester United in the race to sign Gomes, despite Valencia’s refusal to negotiate with the Italians a few weeks ago.

Nonetheless, the Blues tested Los Che’s resolve with a significant opening offer, only for Sky to be told its sources that nothing below €55m would be accepted.

Valencia paid €15m to sign Gomes permanently last summer after a promising debut campaign on loan from Benfica, who in turn are entitled to a 25 percent sell-on fee.

Despite their failure to qualify for Europe last season, Valencia remain determined to keep a “key element” of their project.
