Official: Emery to leave Sevilla

Sevilla have announced that Unai Emery will leave the club next week, amidst speculation that the Coach is heading for Paris Saint-Germain.

Emery must now buy out his contract at a cost of €2m, although PSG are expected to front the bill, as former Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli will reportedly hold talks about succeeding the Basque on Monday.

“Sevilla FC have received formal communication from the representatives of Unai Emery, in which they have informed us of Emery’s intention next week to unilaterally terminate his employment relationship with Sevilla FC because of his desire not to continue exercising the role of first-team Coach in the 2016-2017 season,” read a statement on the Andalusians’ official website.

The 44-year-old arrived at Sevilla in January 2013 after spells at Lorca Deportiva, Almeria, Valencia and Spartak Moscow, with the side languishing in the bottom half of La Liga, and subsequently took them to three straight Europa Leagues.

However, his position has been shrouded in doubt since the end of last season, with sporting director Monchi also confirming his desire to seek pastures new earlier in June.
