PSG hint at Simeone interest

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made contact with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone as their President speaks of a ‘new era’ and ‘big changes.’

AS cites Yahoo as saying Nasser Al-Khelaifi is himself leading the push for Cholo, who spoke in uncertain terms about his future after Atletico lost the Champions League Final to Real Madrid.

It’s said that PSG have made initial contact with Cholo over succeeding Laurent Blanc, who is now expected to leave the club as Al-Khelaifi promised to overhaul the Ligue 1 champions.

“Now we have to build a strong group in Europe. I reflect on what’s happened and yes, you have to make big changes, and you have to do it this season. After five years you have to start a new cycle,” he told Le Parisien.

“I won’t talk about any case in particular, but big changes are coming. A new cycle begins, you’ll see.”

Al-Khelaifi went on to claim the PSG players ‘didn’t want to fight’ in their Champions League quarter-final with Manchester City and rhetorically asked who was to blame for that, with the suggestion that Blanc is the culprit, and he went on to praise Atletico and, by implication, Simeone.

“I have great respect for Atletico, the club, the team and their fans. They always have great motivation and deserved to be in the final. This is the second time in three years they play it and that’s no coincidence,” he said.
