‘Barca & Bayern wins won’t beat Madrid’

Antoine Griezmann insists Atletico Madrid cannot claim to have won the Champions League “just because we beat Bayern or Barca”.

Atleti defeated the Dutch, Spanish and German champions en route to Milan, where they will face arch-rivals Real Madrid, but Griezmann warned his teammates not to approach the final with any hint of complacency stemming from their previous scalps.

“We won’t win just because we beat Bayern or Barca. We have to be 100 out of 100 because it’ll be difficult,” the forward said at a Press conference as part of Los Colchoneros’ media day.

“It’s great [that Diego Simeone said he was one of the three best players in the world].

“I really try to do my best in every game and every training session, and my teammates and the coaching staff have done everything for me to be at this level. I hope it continues like this.

“[On Zizou v Cholo], each will have their tactics and words before the game, and [their words] at half-time will be important, as well as the changes. Ours must be prepared to change the game.

“I won’t change my habits [for the final], I’ll drink ‘mate’ [a herbal drink] with [Diego] Godin and [Jose Maria] Gimenez, give everything and do what the Coach tells me.

“[Madrid’s] entire team is strong, they’re always up there with the best, but the most important thing for us is to be mentally and physically prepared to have a good match.

“Before the season started, I said I wanted to improve on what I did last year and I’ve done that. Next season, I’ll do the same.

“[Angel] Correa and Fernando [Torres] eventually picked up the pace and have done well when they’ve played

“When you go to bed, you see how the game will go, but it’s like that in any match. I wake up wanting to train and give everything.”
