Godin: Cavani wants to come

Diego Godin claims Uruguay teammate Edinson Cavani would be happy to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Atletico Madrid.

Godin was speaking on El Partido de las 12 and was asked about the PSG forward, and confirmed he has been encouraging him to take an offer from Vicente Calderon.

“I’ve called Cavani several times to come to Atleti. He loves Atletico and the way of playing, because it’s a lot like the Uruguay team. He’d be delighted to come,” AS quotes Godin as saying.

Godin added that the idea Atletico can attract a player of Cavani’s stature is a mark of the progression of the club, having himself turned down offers to leave last year.

“There was a team offering a lot of money and I didn’t want to go. You can go to more economically-powerful clubs, but none gets so much out of the individual player as Atletico,” he noted.

“Atletico used to be a selling club. Today they can keep their young players.”

Godin added that another Uruguayan was, in his opinion, the world’s best striker, but not the world’s greatest player.

“Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and Luis Suarez, the best striker in the world,” he considered.
