Costa out of Spain squad

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been left out of Spain’s provisional squad for Euro 2016.

Vicente del Bosque has named 25 players for the France tournament, with two to be culled, but neither Costa nor Atletico Madrid’s Fernando Torres make the cut.

Valencia forward Paco Alcacer isn’t included either, despite he and Costa having been regulars in qualification. Aritz Aduriz, Nolito, Alvaro Morata and Lucas Vazquez are called up for the forward options.

Iker Casillas, David De Gea and Sergio Rico are the three goalkeepers while in defence are Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Dani Carvajal, Jordi Alba, Marc Bartra, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mikel San Jose and Juanfran.

Bruno Soriano gets the call in midfield with Sergio Busquets, Koke, Thiago Alcantara, Andres Iniesta, Isco, David Silva, Pedro Rodriguez, Cesc Fabregas and Saul Niguez, Javi Martinez and Juan Mata among those overlooked.

Del Bosque has also named a number of reserves, including Villarreal’s Sergio Asenjo and Denis Suarez, Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams, Real Sociedad youngster Mikel Oyarzabal and Malaga’s Pablo Fornals.
