Lopetegui linked to Valencia post

Julen Lopetegui is the latest Coach to be mentioned as a possible candidate for the Valencia bench next season.

According to Superdeporte, the 49-year-old´s name has been suggested by renowned agent Jorge Mendes, although it is understood he meets the criteria laid down by Valencia director of football, Jesus Garcia Pitarch.

Lopetegui´s coaching career has taken in Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid Castilla and Porto at club level, whilst he has also led the Spain Under-19 and Under-21 teams to European Championship glory.

The former goalkeeper has been out of work since being axed as Porto boss in January this year after a 3-1 home loss to Martimo, having already seen his team eliminated from the Champions League.

Nonetheless, whilst he has no experience of coaching in La Primera, he has worked with several of the present Valencia squad, a fact that Pitarch feels works in his favour.

Current Los Che boss Pako Ayesteran has a contract that ends on May 30 and has not been offered a new one, leading to reports that a decision on his future has already been taken.
