Messi: Barca don’t want Madrid to win

Lionel Messi acknowledges the desire of Barcelona fans to see Real Madrid end the season empty-handed. ‘They’d be the same with us.’

Los Blancos could yet snatch La Liga from Barca on the final day, and will meet Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Final, with Messi insisting it’s more important for Barca to focus on the two trophies they can claim – the League and the Copa del Rey.

“It’s obvious the people of Barcelona don’t want Madrid to win anything. They’d be the same with us. But hey, it’s a Champions League Final and it’s those two again and we need to think of what we can achieve,” Messi told ESPN, according to AS.

“We know it would be wonderful to finish with the League and the Cup. They’re not easy to win. We’ve competed with Madrid, Atletico, Sevilla, Villarreal, there are a lot of important teams so you have to enjoy this.

“We’ve won so much, more than I thought I would when I started in football. Perhaps there’s still a thorn with the national team, where I’ve played some finals and not won any of them. But that’s football…”
