Ronaldo: To those who doubted me…

Cristiano Ronaldo was quick to question those who “doubted” him during his injury recovery after his return in Real Madrid’s win against Manchester City.

Ronaldo had missed the past two weeks with a hamstring strain, but he came through unscathed in his comeback as Madrid beat City 1-0 to reach the Champions League final and he spoke of his surprise at the recent media focus on his fitness.

“It was tough, but we played better than City, created more chances and were more intense,” the forward told BT Sport after the game.

“We knew after our goal that City would press, but we controlled the game.

“One-nil was a short result, but we’re happy that we’re in the final.

“We had chances through [Luka] Modric and myself, and it was the kind of game we had to kill off.

“It didn’t happen, it was a short result, but it’s [a] good [one] because we got through and are in the final.

“[On how his return went], it was good. I didn’t do much in the 15 days, but I played today.

“People have doubted me, I don’t know why. They know I recover quickly, and I’m happy [with my performance].

“I had no problems, although I was tired at end, but I felt I didn’t do badly and helped the team.

“[On an all-Madrid final], it’s a tough final and you never know what will happen.

“It’ll be 50-50 against Atletico, and we’re so happy because it’ll be a special match.”
