Carvajal: Decided at the Bernabeu

Dani Carvajal welcomes the chance for Real Madrid to settle the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City at Santiago Bernabeu.

The first leg at City’s Etihad Stadium ended goalless despite Madrid having arguably the better chances, but Carvajal told reporters the team would have accepted the situation before kick-off.

“It will be decided at the Bernabeu. The game was even, we had more chances but we have to take them. But before the game if they said that we’d go through if we won at the Bernabeu, we’d take that. Our support is there and thanks to them, we will try to reach [the final in] Milan,” the right-back confirmed, according to AS.

Madrid were without Cristiano Ronaldo, who failed a late fitness test, but Carvajal praised the forward’s replacement, Lucas Vazquez.

“Cristiano had discomfort and it was decided he wouldn’t be here for everything that’s to come. We have a very big squad. Lucas came out, and has had a more than notable game,” he said of the winger.

“I believe Cristiano will be back for the return. He’s strong, he has good genetics and I think he will be.”
