LIVEBLOG: Manchester City v Real Madrid

Live coverage of the Champions League semi-final first leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.

Madrid, 10-times champions of Europe, most recently in 2014, go to Manuel Pellegrini’s City in the midst of a domestic resurgence, just a point behind La Liga leaders Barcelona and with the chance of a Champions League-Primera double.

Zinedine Zidane oversaw a 3-2 win at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday while the quarter-final needed a second leg comeback against Wolfsburg, Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick delivering a 3-0 win after a 4-1 defeat.

But Ronaldo is only named as a substitute after an injury in training last week, having missed the game against Rayo this weekend.

Tuesday’s hosts hammered Stoke City on Saturday but find themselves out of contention for the Premier League, while Pellegrini will leave the club regardless this summer, to be replaced by Pep Guardiola.

City beat Paris Saint-Germain in the last eight to reach their first-ever Champions League semi-final, the winners playing either Atletico Madrid or Bayern Munich.
