Adan ‘wants to ruin Barca’s League’

Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan, formerly of Real Madrid, hopes his side can spoil Barcelona’s League title defence.

Betis host Barca on April 30 and though the derby at Sevilla comes first, Adan admitted when asked about the title race, that he would like to do his old side a favour.

“Today I only think about the game against Sevilla. As a Madrid fan, if we can ruin La Liga for Barca, even better,” he said, AS reports.

“For me the derby isn’t to save our season. It’s a special game you live differently, but it’s just another game. Winning it doesn’t win you any trophy. The season will be good depending on our position in the table.

“Right now we’re tied for eighth. Our goal is to be higher. We come from a good line and the dynamic is good but they’re the favourites. We’ll have to be very good to win. We’re looking forward to showing what we can give.”

Adan was asked about controversial comments made by Sevilla’s Adil Rami, who will miss the derby through injury but in an Instagram post dismissed the fixture, comparing it to a pre-season friendly and claiming Malaga were Sevilla’s real rivals.

“I think he’s trying to play [Gerard] Pique. He showed little respect for professionals. He has no respect for Betis and after a year here he doesn’t know what a derby is,” Adan replied.
