Diego Simeone says Atletico Madrid’s remit is simple ahead of Sunday’s visit of Granada in La Liga. “We need to win and then wait for what Barcelona do.”
Atleti can move level on points with Barcelona at the summit with victory over Granada this weekend, providing the Catalans lose a third straight game when they travel to Valencia, but Simeone insists his side are not getting carried away with the prospect.
“[On Bayern Munich], they’re an important team with a great history and very strong in these situations, with a set of highly attacking features, a Coach with very clear ideas and who has always competed in this tournament,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“We respect everyone’s opinions. All we can say is that, for us, it’s a great opportunity [to reach the Champions League final].
“I don’t perceive that [no-one wants to face Atleti]. Manchester City and Real Madrid both have great players, plus great pedigree.
“We’ve always maintained our line of work when we’ve had to compete in the Champions League or Europa League.
“We remain focused on the League and hopefully there’s a great atmosphere in the stadium [on Sunday].
“[On Antoine Griezmann], when a club’s sporting department brings in a player, you always imagine what their best would be like.
“Antoine has improved in all aspects and it’s all down to him. We give him the platform to showcase his talent because.
“I take things day by day. Against Barca, we played without two centre-backs and still had a great game.
“Situations change every day, so we don’t look further [than the present day].
“We don’t have a remote control, but we still need to turn on our heart, head and legs.
“We have a very clear remit: we need to win and then wait for what Barcelona do.
“We always try to think of the season when finished, everything can be very changeable, it is not necessary to titles now.”
