Unai Emery says it is “terrific” that Barcelona are reportedly interested in Kevin Gameiro as “it means there are top clubs noticing Sevilla”.
Gameiro has emerged as Barca’s top striking target in recent weeks, according to the Spanish Press, with the Frenchman understood to have accepted a peripheral role at Camp Nou, but Emery disagrees the rumour serves to undermine his club.
“We can’t deny that when mini-successes are achieved [referring to the Europa League], there’s a feeling of satisfaction, but it coincided with an important week for the city so [the satisfaction] was very condensed for us,” the Coach said at a Press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Deportivo La Coruna.
“We’re all focused on [Sunday’s] match. We’ve realigned ourselves with the importance of La Liga and the difficulty of Deportivo.
“We’ve carried out a complete analysis of our opponents and ourselves, so that any euphoria from Thursday has been forgotten.
“[On Gameiro-Barca links], there are positive and negative rumours. That our players are rumoured to be in the orbit of Barcelona is terrific.
“It means there are top clubs noticing Sevilla. In terms of trajectory, all these rumours are positive.”
