Quique Setien has challenged in-form Las Palmas to “win our remaining six games”, starting with Saturday’s visit of Sporting Gijon.
A run of six wins in seven matches has propelled Las Palmas to 10th in La Liga, despite being favourites for relegation at the start of the season, but Setien made it clear “we want to finish as high as possible” in the table.
“A win would almost guarantee survival,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“We’re on an extraordinary run, which we’ve never been on before, and we want to finish as high as possible because we’re giving this game the same consideration as all the others.
“[On Sporting], they’ll sacrifice their lives in their every move.
“I plan to give opportunities to players who have had less minutes but without [the team] losing their potential.
“At no time did I imagine that we’d maintain this level of performance, which is much more than I expected, but we must be prepared to suffer when things stop going well.
“A defeat would dampen the effect [of our winning run], so hopefully we can win our remaining six games.
“[On his future], I don’t know why it’s generated this debate. I’ll reach an agreement with the club once we go over a few things.”
