Esnaider ‘couldn’t refuse Getafe’

Juan Esnaider says he ‘couldn’t refuse Getafe’ when offered the Coach’s job until the end of the season.

Esnaider replaced Fran Escriba this week and, having worked at the club as assistant to Michel, after a playing career that took in the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, he said he felt he owed the Madrid-suburbs club.

“It was very easy to accept this challenge, beyond the difficulty we’re in. I’m convinced I can bring enough so that the season ends well,” he said, AS reports, with Getafe in the bottom three with six games to go.

“My previous time was good and the memories made it easy for me. I’m convinced and I know the people at the club. I can’t refuse a proposal from Getafe. I felt indebted.

“I feel qualified and if I didn’t I wouldn’t have accepted the challenge. To get experience at some point you have to train for the first time. I’m not a kamikaze and I wouldn’t have accepted if I didn’t believe we could stay up.

“I’d love to be here all my life. The team has shown they have a level much higher than the table says. It’s not a coincidence they picked up so many points in the first half of the season. If they did that then they can do it again.”
