Getafe appoint Esnaider

Juan Esnaider has been named the new Coach of Getafe, taking over until the end of the season after Fran Escriba’s departure.

The club’s official website confirms the hiring of the former Real Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Atletico Madrid and Juventus forward, who had been assistant to Michel at Getafe between 2009 and 2011.

Mauricio Elena will act as the Argentine’s assistant and Oscar Garcia is appointed trainer.

AS had reported Getafe intended to appoint ‘an experienced Spanish Coach who has coached top teams’ to replace Escriba, Joaquin Caparros being mooted.

Escriba was sacked on Monday after Getafe lost to Villarreal to remain in the bottom three of the Primera with six games to go.

AS reports Getafe President Angel Torres was going to sack Escriba a week earlier, after defeat to Rayo Vallecano, but was talked into a stay of execution. When Villarreal took the points at El Madrigal the axe fell.

“I have it clear, but the other party has to give the ok,” Torres said, AS reports, when asked about Escriba’s successor.

“It’s a Spanish Coach, experienced, and who has coached top teams.”

AS suggests Caparros fits the bill, but Manolo Jimenez is also mooted, as is Milinko Pantic.

“Escriba is a good Coach and a good person but the project hasn’t gone well,” Torres said regarding the ex-trainer.

“Safety is possible. There are six games and we have to win three.”

Getafe next play Real Madrid at Coliseum Alfonso Perez, on Saturday.
