Wolfsburg forward Andre Schurrle noted how his team ‘used the spaces’ as they took a surprise Champions League quarter-final first leg win from Real Madrid.
Madrid fell to a 2-0 defeat in Germany and Schurrle spoke after the match, noting the idea of his team but stressing the work at the back was just as important, if not more so.
“We took advantage of the space and we went out to sprint when we were able to score a goal,” he said, AS reports.
“The best thing we’ve done is defend, which is a very important thing when you play Real Madrid.
“We’ve played badly in the Bundesliga and maybe it was expected we were going to concede six goals.”
