Jese: Madrid can come back

Jese believes Real Madrid can overturn the deficit from the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Wolfsburg at Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid were shocked by a super performance from the home side, going down to two first half goals with Los Blancos’ defence vulnerable, though Jese, who replaced the injury Karim Benzema in the first half, insisted it was a team defeat.

“In the end we all win and we all lose. I didn’t see the team as slack,” he told reporters post-match, according to AS.

“We played a great game at Camp Nou. This was another game. They’re a great team. We should this about the mistakes and take the negatives and improve them.

“We can all give a lot more. It’s necessary to analyse the game, the errors. We’re human, professionals, we can lose, we can win, it’s part of the game.”

The return leg at the Bernabeu comes next week and Jese feels that with the support of a home crowd, the tie isn’t lost.

“They’re strong. You can lose games. We tried. We haven’t been to the Bernabeu and with the help of our support we’re going to try to come back,” he vowed.

“We’re a great team and we are going to do it. We’ll give our lives for the game at the Bernabeu, for the fans and for ourselves.”

Madrid were angered Gareth Bale was denied a penalty at 0-0 while the spot kick awarded to Wolfsburg for a foul by Casemiro on Andre Schurrle also raised the ire of the visitors.

“Bale’s was a penalty but the referee didn’t give it. These things happen in the game,” Jese accepted.

“We have to stay together as a team and I’m sure that with our support we are going to do it.”
